War Readiness

Were The Colonists Ready for the British?

I want to introduce you to the American and British sides of the American Revolution. 1775, the colonies in North America and the British military were on the verge of war!
The British had a lot of strengths, they had 42,000 more troops than the military in the Colonies. They had a lot of supplies like weapons, bullets and they seldom lacked for food. They also had weaknesses. Their main weakness was the distance between Great Britain and America. Moving their supplies and troops across the ocean was really hard. Due to the heavy cost of war, poor leadership, Lord George German, the man chosen to direct the British troops, who had no real sense of how to defeat the rebels.
On the other hand the colonists had some great advantages. One of theses advantages was strong leadership . Joseph Martin who was one of the colonial leaders who was willing to give his life to defend a country, to defend freedom, and democracy. They had a great commander, by the name of General Washington who was an experienced leader. He was a man who inspired courage and confidence. He kept the army together. Without him the war could have been lost. They also had weaknesses like; food shortages and gold was scarce.
The British fought for territory here in America. The British destroyed a lot of the colonists’ farms and food supplies. During the war the British were primarily fighting for the British King and getting him money.
Even though the British had more troops, the colonists won the war. This war was important because if America didn’t win, life would be different today. With this victory we kept our rights!
