started on 1775 April 19th .The battle of Lexington happened when the British were on their way to Concord. The colonists tried to stand their ground. At this battle there were over 100 spectators. Many shots were fired from each side. However at the end of the battle the colonists retreated and the British continued on their way to Concord. It was a big conflict between the 13 colonies and Great Britain mainly in Massachusetts. Paul Revere and other riders sounded the alarm. The colonists set up a system where if the British came by land they would put 1 light in the old north bell tower, and if they came by sea they would put up 2 lights in the tower. The lights told the colonists were to meet to fight the British. The colonial men started moving to stop and cut off the redcoats. Soon the men started firing at the British. The British didn't expect that and began to retreat. Many more battles occurred.
